Brainstorm Blog #3 (Daydream Video Project)

For my daydream video project, I will be making a short movie based on a time when I got stranded in the middle of Kansas. In addition to this, I will be using an original piece of music called Outside, during the animated “fantasy” part of the video. The basic plot of the story is that after trading off driving at a gas station in Hays, Kansas, character 2 (Austin) cannot get the car to start. Austin, with confusion, asks character 1 (Sophia) what kind of gas she put in the car. She responds, “I don’t know, the normal kind?” With frustration, Austin inquires, “did you use the black, or green handle.” Once it’s been realized that Sophia put diesel in her car, she defends herself by saying she thought it was organic. They rent a motel room and are told that the car will take three days to fix. Initially, the couple assumes it will be only a slight inconvenience, but only two hours later they are already miserable from their lack of freedom. Right after this moment, character 1 stares deeply into the frame of some thoughtless motel art and starts to daydream about leaving Hays. By zooming into the picture and having things seemingly fly out of the frame and into the camera, the scene transitions into the couple exploring, shopping and drinking in a vibrant city. The scene feels more colorful and the music is playing in the background. After a minute, the music stops and the couple is back being depressed within the motel room. Only one hour had passed.
