Overall, I think my soundscape project was a success. Although, I feel that with more time, I could’ve polished it a bit better. For one, my project was 4 minutes and 49 seconds long. I should have taken the time to cut it down by a few seconds, in order for it to have been 4:33. Also, I should have taken the time to listen through the entire project and realize the amount of space that was happening in between more active soundscapes. In retrospect, the space that I intentionally left for ambience, was present for way too long. I also think that I should have built the overall piece a bit more. In addition to the prolonged spaces, I wasn’t doing enough overlapping, or increasing of volume, which really added to the stagnant state of it. One thing that I made sure to include was enough effects. Therefore, I was happy with the results of my experimentation with effects. I felt like I used a diverse range of sounds and used the sounds effectively to demonstrate my story. My original idea was to create a dystopian, industrial-like soundscape, by choosing only electronic audio files and using otherworldly sound effects. I feel like this idea came through, since people related it to sounding “alien,” or “otherworldly.” I also liked how people felt it was “haunting,” “unsettling,” by feeling like they were underwater, or being abducted, because I was also going for a liminal and creepy feeling.
